The Dual Diagnosis Academy
by the Dual Diagnosis Hub CIC
This site is going to be launched at the end of 2023. The Dual Diagnosis Hub wants to collaborate with various types of orginisations in developing useful courses for people with complex mental health & addiction issues to promote & strengthen recovery.
Time to Launch:
The Idea
Addiction Recovery Courses
We'd like to partner with addiction services to develop courses about addiction recovery with a dual diagnosis context. The courses will be around different recovery topics.
Mental Health Recovery Courses
We'd like to partner with recovery colleges & diagnosis-specific charities & non-profits to develop courses about mental health recovery with a dual diagnosis context.
Dual Diagnosis Recovery Courses
We'd like to partner with various organisations to develop courses about recovering from dual diagnosis with either a specific type of addiction or mental health diagnoses.
The Purpose of the Courses
Aid Recovery
We want to create truly useful & practical courses that inform and add something to people's understanding of mental health, addiction, or dual diagnosis. We also plan on collaborating with other organisations to create courses aimed at men and women from ethnic minority backgrounds.
Increase Awareness
We aim to create courses that raise awareness of the common issues around dual diagnosis, addiction issues, and mental health challenges. We also intend to develop courses aimed at communities that might otherwise be overlooked or that have issues around accessing services.
Reduce Stigma
We aim to use our training to reduce stigma for those with a dual diagnosis and among the families, carers, & supporters of those with complex challenges, including those families from ethnic minority backgrounds who may not understand mental health or addiction.
The Courses Would be Aimed at
Those with a Dual Diagnosis
Our courses will primarily be aimed at dually diagnosed people i.e. those with complex mental health & addiction recovery needs. Their purpose will be to introduce different dual diagnosis recovery ideas and concepts.
Carers, Family, & Supporters
Some of our courses will attempt to help family members to gain a deeper understanding of addiction & mental health diagnoses. It will also aim to reduce stigma & increase understanding of the issues.
Professionals Interested in Dual Diagnosis
We will also create courses aimed at professionals who come across dually diagnosed people but who may not receive specific training around it from their work environment.
Specific Courses & Content Created Specifically for Marginalised Communities & Groups
Women
We'll also be developing content & courses specifically aimed at women with co-occurring mental health & addictions issues to help more women to develop addiction-free lives.
The LGBTQIA+ Community
We aim to work with LGBTQ+ addiction & mental health organisations to create specific content aimed at the LGBTQ+ communities to ensure that these communities are included.
Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic Communities
We'll be working with ethnic led recovery organisations such as BAC-IN CIC, based in Nottingham to help create culturally appropriate courses for different ethnic minority groups & their families.
How much will our courses cost?
Dually Diagnosed People
Our courses will be available to everyone who has complex mental health & addiction recovery challenges through organisations such as NHS Foundation Trusts paying for access for their service users, but they'll be free to everyone with a dual diagnosis through a scholarship scheme because we don't believe that having a low income should be a barrier to recovery!
Low Cost Fee Per Course
Some of our courses aimed at friends, family members, supporters and carers, will be free, but some will cost depending on what the creators of the course need to cover their costs. Again, a scholarship will be available to those on low incomes and people just need to apply for a scholarship for the Dual Diagnosis Academy.
Professional's Access can be paid for by individuals or organisations
Access to our courses aimed at professionals can either be paid for by interested individuals or by organisations for their workforce.
